Update v0.8.0 released
HereSphere update v0.8.0 for the Quest 2 is now available. This update adds support for external subtitles and some minor quality of life improvements.
Subtitles:
- External subtitles are now supported. Place the subtitle file (srt/ssa/ass) into the same directory as the video and rename the subtitle file to match the video name excluding the extension.
- The subtitle settings menu can be opened by pressing on the "CC" icon above the seekbar.
- When viewing VR videos, the depth of the subtitles will be adjusted based on the autofocus depth. You can tweak the depth of the subtitles by adjusting the autofocus scale or setting a fixed distance. The vertical position of the subtitles can be adjusted with the pitch setting.
- When viewing flat videos, the subtitles depth will be flushed to the screen. You can offset the depth by changing the "Screen Depth Offset" setting.
- Subtitles can be supplied with the HereSphere API with the "subtitles" field, which is an object consisting of "name", "language", and "url" string fields.
- If a video has internal subs, you can use an app like FFmpeg or MKVtoolnix to extract the subtitles to an external file. For example, this FFmpeg command will extract the subtitle file: ffmpeg -i videofile.mkv -map 0:s:0 subtitlefile.ssa
Quality of life improvements:
- Added a "Network File Deletion Delay" setting to the user settings. This is the number of seconds the player will wait for a network file to close before trying to delete the file. If the number is set too low, then the file deletion may fail due to the file not being closed.
- Changed the near clip plane distance from 10cm to 0.1cm, which allows objects like the motion controller to not get clipped when placed close to the face.

Hi, I purchased Heresphere and recently tried to update to 9.0 apk. It seemed straight forward until I realized I had loaded the DEMO 9.0 apk which gave me some connection problems so I reloaded 8.0 apk (DEMO). I have spent some time searching/reading, logging in and out trying to find these apks. I find something called Steam Beta Branch, enabled it, but at this time this is like a puzzle that seems solvable. I have Heresphere installed and running on my OQ2, so where do these apks reside? I've had plenty of experience with installing/updating apps but this one has me stumped/pissed off. any help? thanks
There are two versions of the app, the PC version which available through Steam, and the Quest 2 version which is available on itch.io. Which version are you using?
To install the Quest 2 version, you need to sideload the apk on the Quest 2. The easiest method is downloading the advanced installer for SideQuest located on the right side of this page: https://sidequestvr.com/setup-howto Follow the instructions in the advanced installer (the easy installer doesn't allow you to install your own apk's). Once you've got SideQuest set up, click on the icon with the down arrow, and then select the HereSphere apk downloaded from itch.io. HereSphere will now appear in your Quest 2 apps under "unknown sources".
I'd recommend trying out the newest version v0.9.1 to see if that fixes the connectivity issue instead of downgrading back to v.0.8.0. You should be able to download the apks after logging into your itch.io account that you used to purchase the app. Else, find the email that itch.io sent you with the download links when you originally purchased the app.
OK, as I mentioned, I loaded the app on my OQ2. I was never able to download the updates from the website, the APKs were greyed out, with your suggestion, I now know that the only way I can update the app on my PC in particular is from my email confirmation of purchase, I updated the app to 9.1.0 and all is good, thanks for the speedy reply
Thanks for your reply, I had looked in "about " but apparently missed that detail.
The requests for thumbnails have already been posted on forums . There is one suggestion I'd like to make.
It would be great if the pause/play functions were one button instead of two. Attempting these functions with a Q2 controller can be a bit of a hassle. Yes, it's a small difference but it would make Heresphere easier to use. Keep up the good work.
Hi, I purchased Heresphere and I'm very pleased with the app on my Quest 2:
1.) How can I determine the version that I'm using?
2.) How would I apply an update if/when they become available?
Thanks
In the user guide (bottom of left side panel), click on "about" in the upper right corner to see the version number. You can use the sidequest advanced installer to sideload the new apk. Don't uninstall the old version, since that will delete the saved data..
